These aftermarket shifters provide a lock-out for the reverse gear. To engage reverse, you need to pull the trigger up, which opens a gate to allow the shifter to move into the reverse gear slot. These shifters are precision manufactured with precise tolerances. We have found the on Older vehicles with worn shifter linkage and bushings, it is sometimes possible to engage reverse gear without pulling up the trigger. By adjusting the side-to-side position of the shift, you may be able to adjust for this extra play in your linkage system. But if you cannot get this shifter to operate properly in all gears, you will need to inspect and replace all worn shift rod bushings, couplers and shift rod supports.
