CIP1's Project 1965 Volkswagen Beetle - Episode 1

CIP1's Project 1965 Volkswagen Beetle - Episode 1

In 1965 Volkswagen produced just over 1 million Beetles worldwide. One of those shiny new 1965 Beetles made its way over from Germany to Vancouver, British Columbia Canada in hopes of finding a new owner. It was sold through Volkswagen Pacific Sales Ltd. to a couple who owned it for 44 years. It was rarely driven and was eventually parked permanently in the 1970’s with only 15,941 miles showing on the odometer.

All its life it sat in an open carport and every now and then it would get a wash and the tires filled. Over time, surface rust started appearing and occasionally it would get sanded & spray painted in the affected areas. Eventually, the engine also seized up. Unfortunately, it didn’t survive in 100% pristine condition. Years later in 2009 it was sold to a local VW enthusiast who in turn sold it to someone else. The Beetle has been through several owners since then – all who had intentions of restoring or modifying it and getting it back on the road. Eventually, the body was pulled from the chassis, semi disassembled and then abandoned by one of the owners. We all know how easy it is to take a project apart but putting it back together is a whole different story.

Jump ahead to October of 2023 and CIP was presented the opportunity to purchase the Beetle. With a warehouse stocked full of parts and a knowledgeable staff, CIP will begin the journey of breathing new life into the little Beetle.
