Description

This BBT premium-quality 7-wire turn signal switch is the electrical portion of the column-mounted turn signal assembly for specific North American VW Bus applications. The original switch housing must be reused.

Important Application Note: This switch is not a general 1970-1972 Bus turn signal switch. It is specifically for M24 USA / Canada specification buses produced from August 1970 through July 1971, plus the applicable August 1971 production using VW part number 211 953 513J.

Why the production date matters: Earlier North American Bus models used a different turn signal/brake light circuit. On those vehicles, the rear brake-light function was routed through the turn signal switch because the brake and turn signal shared the same rear lamp filament. This 7-wire switch does not contain that earlier brake-light routing circuit and is therefore not correct for those earlier applications.

For the 1972 model year, VW changed the rear lamp arrangement so the brake light had its own separate bulb/filament. Because VW electrical configurations changed during this period, always verify the vehicle production date, original switch part number, wiring configuration, and M-code before ordering.

Part Type: Turn signal switch - electrical portion

Before ordering: Compare the wire count and terminal arrangement with your original switch and confirm the vehicle production date. A switch that physically installs may still be electrically incorrect for the vehicle's brake-light and turn-signal circuit.
