Without a good oil breather, performance engines suffer from both oil leaks as well as performance loss. All breather boxes available on the market so far were also not ideal for the poorly accessible engine compartments of VW Split Window and Bay Window Buses - if they are equipped with the upright Type 1 engine. Only the vans equipped with a Type-4 engine from the factory came with a service hatch in the luggage shelf above the engine. Our CSP Products breather tower, specially manufactured for the aforementioned Buses, provides a remedy, also fits Thing (Type-181), Karmann Ghia (Type-14) and Fridolin (Type-147) and offers several advantages at the same time.

The most important feature is of course the filler neck, pointing towards the engine lid. Due to the low positioning on the breather tower, oil can be refilled without any problems, whereby a factory-style oil cap, featuring a secure bayonet lock, ensures perfect sealing.

Due to the compact design the use of all CSP Products linkages and most of other aftermarket crossbar carb linkages is possible. The separation plates fitted inside the breather tower with a volume of almost one liter, guarantee separation of air and oil and a rapid return path into the engine.

As the tower is securely attached to the engine, there is no tedious unfastening of hoses when the engine has to be removed from the vehicle. Welded-on threaded fittings (three 3/8-NPT on sides, one M22x1.5 on top) enable the use of hose nipples or AN aero fittings. They allow the ventilation of the valve covers, as well as to connect return hoses to the air filters of the carbs (with a specially designed CSP Products dual banjo fitting). For engines without air filters, a K&N breather filter can be mounted onto the upper connector. Made of black powder coated aluminium and welded by hand, the CSP Products breather tower is attractive in terms of its low weight (850 grams) and shape.
